Advocates for Children's Mental Health

Imagine that 80,000 children in Bexar County would be diagnosed with leukemia this year. And what if only 16,000 of them would get treatment? It would be a national emergency! The public would come together. We would pull out our checkbooks to do whatever it took to help those children.

Thankfully, leukemia isn’t that prevalent, but there is a silent epidemic that can be just as devastating. 1 in 5 children in the U.S. suffer from mental illness. Of those, only 20% receive treatment.

The One in Five Minds campaign, sponsored by Clarity Child Guidance Center, was created not only to raise awareness about mental illness, but also to break down stigma. Many times parents and community members hesitate to speak up or ask the important questions about mental illness because of stigma. One in Five Minds’ goal is that no one will be afraid to speak about mental illness and that all children in Bexar County who need treatment will be able to access it, regardless of their ability to pay.

One in Five Minds strives to educate the community, parents, professionals, and leaders about mental illness. We hold events open to the public, send out e-newsletters, attend conferences, and provide great information on this site. However only with the help of committed supporters like you, can One in Five Minds reach out and help these children. Please take the pledge to make a change today and share it with others in your community.
