From 1995 to 2002, Al Philippus was the Chief of Police for the San Antonio Police department, where he served for over 27 years. Currently he works for Valero Energy Corporation in San Antonio. He served as Director of Corporate Security from 2002 to 2007, and now serves as Vice President of the Corporate Services and Security Division.
As Chief of Police, Philippus focused the efforts of his administration on reducing crime and fear levels throughout the community; enhancing the professional credentials of the department through higher education standards, national accreditation, and new technology; establishing community partnerships through community policing and community problem solving efforts; restoring trust and confidence of the police throughout the community, especially among minority groups; diversifying the police workforce through minority outreach to better represent the population of San Antonio and improving the quality of life and safety for all residents and visitors.
Philippus believes his strongest assets are his faith in God and his family. He is married to Jeanne Philippus and is blessed with five children and two grandchildren.
