AmparoOrtizOrtiz worked at KWEX-TV from 1977 to 1980 as Operations Manager and then at KSAH - Radio until 1989 when she moved back to Univision KWEX-TV, as Promotions/Community Affairs Director for Univision and Telefutura. She hosted and produced a Community Affairs Program for 20 years, where she addressed various issues including children’s programs, services and education.

Ortiz has been a committed advocate for children in our community through her involvement with non profits such as Communities in Schools, S.A. Council on Alcohol and Drug Prevention, Texas A & M San Antonio Foundation, San Antonio Library Foundation, and others. She also created and coordinated the Student of the Week, Spanish Spelling Bee contest, Medication Brown Bag Day and Latina Health Conference. Ortiz received a national award presented by Anheuser-Bush in recognition of her contributions to education and the Hispanic culture, in addition to a number of state and national awards for her contribution as a volunteer and professional.

Born in Colombia, South America, Mrs. Ortiz studied Business Administration in her home country of Colombia. She later moved to Mexico where she continued her education, and finally to Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. Mrs.Ortiz is a wife and mother of three wonderful children.
