As a high school art teacher, I feel extremely lucky to work with 150 teenagers everyday. We have plenty of time to get to know each other during work time, and they teach me as much as I teach them.
I am an advocate for kindness and wellness, and I believe that in order for a student to be successful academically, he or she has to be well emotionally. We have very “real” conversations in my classes, and through those open talks we discover how mental illness affects us all.
I work closely with campus counselors to provide support for students. We are all there to support each other, and one of my biggest goals as an educator is to end the stigma surrounding mental illness.
