I am a strong proponent of sharing the story about all three of my sons being diagnosed with autism. When tragic events (like Sandy Hook) are reported down to every last detail about the suspect's personal life (in this example you had an autism diagnosis) it scares me. Not everyone with autism commits unspeakable crimes. Just like, not everyone with depression does either. The stigma needs to be eliminated. I share all of the great things my boys accomplish. Why not? The positives outweigh the negatives in so many of us who struggle with a loved one who has a disability or mental illness. Let's not forget that!
