Advocates for Children's Mental Health
The One in Five Minds campaign, sponsored by Clarity Child Guidance Center, was created to raise awareness about children's mental illness, to break down stigma and to increase access to treatment. Many times parents and community members hesitate to speak up or to ask the important questions about mental illness because of stigma. One in Five Minds’ goal is that no one will be afraid to speak about mental illness and that all children in Bexar County who need treatment will be able to access it.
One in Five Minds strives to educate the community, parents, professionals, and leaders about mental illness. We do so by engaging and educating parents and their support system about mental illness: its reality, its treatment, and its prevention. We publish educational materials on our website, hold learning events open to the public, promote support and learning options in the community, advocate for causes that help children and families. Mainly, our goal is to provide important information, resources and a community so that families no longer struggle alone.
Since it was launched in March 2013, One in Five Minds has reached thousand of families who have visited our website, heard a presentation, attended a workshop. We have hosted nationally recognized guest speakers like Liza Long, Pete Early, Kay Warren, Senator Creigh Deeds, Randi Silverman, Cinda and Linea Johnson.
Most importantly, we have helped many parents reach out for help and support for the first time and that's what we're the most proud of.
